back next The 'Hand-Done' Cutaways These are the original Cutaways that Tom did completely by hand. No computer technology was used. First, pencil drawings were made, consisting of several layers followed by a tight inking to produce the final line image. The inking was made into a litho film positive which then became the actual surface where Tom did the color airbrush rendering. All of these originals were 30" by 40". The Gee Bee R-2 was unique in that it was painted on strathmore illustration board. These projects each claimed about 1000 total hours.
